Job Description
Job purpose
The Head – Business Intelligence, Data & AI will be responsible for building and leading the enterprise-wide data, analytics, and AI capability for the Life Insurance business. The role will drive data-led decision making, advanced analytics, AI use cases, and regulatory-compliant reporting across functions such as distribution, underwriting, claims, actuarial, finance, customer experience, risk, and compliance.
This role is a strategic and execution-focused position, blending business understanding, data science, technology, and governance to deliver measurable business impact.
Key responsibilities
1. Enterprise Data & BI Strategy
- Define and own the enterprise data, analytics, and AI strategy aligned to business objectives and digital roadmap
- Establish single source of truth (SSOT) for business, actuarial, and regulatory reporting
- Lead BI transformation from descriptive to predictive and prescriptive analytics
2. Business Intelligence & Reporting
- Oversee end-to-end MIS, dashboards, and analytics across:
- Sales (Agency, Bancassurance, Digital, Partnerships)
- Persistency, productivity, and funnel analytics
- Claims, underwriting, and policy servicing
- Actuarial, finance, risk, and compliance reporting
- Drive self-service BI adoption using tools such as Power BI, Tableau, Qlik, or equivalent
- Ensure timely, accurate, and audit-ready reporting for IRDAI and internal governance
3. Advanced Analytics & AI Use Cases
- Lead development and deployment of AI/ML models, including:
- Customer segmentation and lifetime value models
- Propensity and cross-sell / upsell models
- Fraud detection (sales, underwriting, claims)
- Persistency, churn, and lapse prediction
- Claims triaging and straight-through processing
- Identify and industrialize high-impact AI use cases across the value chain
4. Data Architecture & Engineering
- Own enterprise data architecture covering:
- Data lakes / warehouses
- ETL / ELT pipelines
- Real-time and batch processing
- Partner with IT to drive cloud adoption (Azure / AWS / GCP) and modern data platforms
- Ensure data scalability, performance, and reliability
5. Data Governance, Security & Compliance
- Establish robust data governance, quality, lineage, and metadata frameworks
- Ensure compliance with:
- IRDAI regulations
- Data privacy laws (DPDP Act, GDPR where applicable)
- Internal audit and risk requirements
- Chair or contribute to Data Governance Council
6. Stakeholder Management & Business Partnership
- Act as a strategic thought partner to business heads (Sales, Operations, Actuarial, Finance, Risk)
- Translate business problems into analytics and AI solutions
- Drive adoption of insights through change management and storytelling
7. Leadership & Capability Building
- Build, mentor, and retain high-performing BI, analytics, data engineering, and data science teams
- Foster a culture of innovation, experimentation, and ethical AI
- Partner with external vendors, fintechs, and insurtechs where required
Job requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Business, Engineering, Data Science, or related field.
- Preference to candidates with leadership experience and certifications in Project Management and Six Sigma
Experience
10+ years of experience
Functional and Behavioral requirements
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking abilities.
- Proficiency in BI tools (Power BI, Tableau), SQL, and data warehousing concepts.
- Expertise in process improvement methodologies and performance management.
- Proven ability to work independently and as a team member

- Good organizational, multi-tasking, and time-management skills
